HÂLE'S PREP PAGE

HALE

What to wear, the age old question that has been circulating since headshots began!

Easy answer...bring a shit ton! I like to have options when shooting and for your portfolio you will need enough different choices that really capture your vast casting range!

I may do maverick things and pair clothing colours and textures that you wouldn't have thought of before - TRUST the process. I know what will make you POP on our hand crafted one of a kind backdrops.

DO NOT JUST BRING BLACK!I want you to get good bang for your buck!

We really need a range of colours, styles, necklines etc. Please bring a MINIMUM of 4 Outfit choices.

I want this session to be tailored to you as an individual, so please bring clothes you would wear on a day to day basis but also how you see yourself being cast... This does not mean come dressed like William Shakespeare! More subtle hints toward your desired casting type.

LOGOS / HEAVY PATTERNS

Please don't worry about logos or any heavy patterned clothing - if it becomes distracting, i'll edit it out but it can often add a lot of texture to the image. Sporty brands like Nike/Adidas can often look edgy; especially if it's a hoodie or half-zip. It's a win from me!

LADIES - PLEASE AVOID

STRAPPY TOPS / SQUARE NECK
& FLORECENT COLOURS

NO

Although getting your clavicle bone on display can add great dimension to your shots (so therefore wide neck clothing is fine) - I really would advise against strappy tops; as your Headshot will be cropped 10x8 in size, it will look like two bits of string as clothing - making the image slightly tacky; if your hair ends up covering them you may also look like you're naked in a headshot.

Box necks can work if we're shooting from the side - but generally when cropped for a headshot, it looks weird seeing the shoulders covered in material when chest & neck is bare. This one is up to you but personally not my favourite to shoot.

Fluorescent colours - it just doesn't work. AVOID!

SOME BASIC GO-TOO'S

SOLID COLOURS: Tees, Jumpers, Dresses etc...

LAYERS: Jackets/Overcoats/Overshirts - PLEASE BRING LAYERS!

(works well with lighter tees/darker coats)

COATS: collared jackets / denim / leather / trench coats / camel coat etc...

(please avoid any rain jackets/parkas and things that are too thick)

JUMPERS: Turtlenecks are a MUST! Black is great, colour even better!

(these work really well with layers - a nice overcoat!)

SUITS AND BUSINESS/OFFICE WEAR: YES!!! Great for the portrait package. A power suit - bold colours, even a kilt if you're brave enough!

(PLEASE AVOID any professional looking shirts/suits etc if you're only coming for headshots - this looks too corporate and try hard. A suit/white office blouse in a headshot looks like a costume.)

HÂLE'S FINAL TIPS:

  • CAN I SHAVE? YES! - We don't have a toilet facility in the studio but we do have a mirror and a beard bib to catch your hair; so please bring along any shaving products you need, some water and a bowl.

  • Please moisturise and use lip balm - help me out as much as possible.

  • Ladies who plan on wearing make up; please keep this minimal for headshots. Nothing over the top - light coverage please. Mascara is good but a 'clean looking canvas' is more favoured than 'night out vibes' - if you have booked a portrait package also, feel free to bring some that we can apply mid shoot. Lipstick always is a winner.

  • MEN / WOMEN - translucent powder is great to help de-shine you. Please don't be shy to invest in some for your shoot - you'll look so much better, I promise!

  • Feel free to bring a snack with you. Working that camera is hard work, I don't mind if you get hungry. I supply coffee, tea, hot chocolate and some coffee with vegan milk alternatives (coconut/oat) but feel free to bring your own drinks instead.

  • MOST IMPORTANTLY: BRING OPENNESS - LETS PLAY!

FOR EXTRA DETAILED INFORMATION ON MY PORTRAIT PACKAGE - PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ BELOW:

HÂLE'S HEADSHOT/PORTRAIT PACKAGE

First and foremost, I aim to nail the headshot session several times over - so that you have plenty of range when it comes to choosing your final edits. The headshot & portrait session allows for extra physical in-space set ups, lighting and backdrop changes as well as giving your session that extra time to pinpoint areas of your portfolio that need attention. We can be creative - you can either spend the time nailing your headshots, having the freedom to experiment with all angles, sides and lengths of you; giving you some candid shots to be used for social media, IMDB and press releases, or you can send me some ideas/images of your own in advance that you feel inspired by to which we can create our version of that in the room. You'll see via my gallery link, the range of portraiture i've covered. It really is client-led and dependent on what your needs are. We can discuss all of this in our pre-shoot chat on the day with a coffee whilst going over the specifics of what you need.

With the portrait sessions, I'll have the luxury of experimenting in edit with colour grading and even using our new AI technology to give your portraits that extra pop and flare needed to get you noticed.

PLEASE HAVE A THINK ABOUT THE TYPE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLES YOU WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH ON THE DAY - IF YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO DO OUR ARTISTIC NUDE SHOTS, LET ME KNOW WELL IN ADVANCE AS I CREATE CLIENT SPECIFIC PERSONALISED MOOD BOARDS FOR YOU.

ARTISTIC/IMPLIED OR FULL FRONTAL PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Please do any/all grooming you intend on, before attending the session

  • Feel free to bring a dressing-gown to wear whilst I change light set-ups

  • Men: please bring a variation of underwear. Lighter colours work best.

  • The studio will be a 'closed set' between you and your photographer. Only two of you will be in the room at any one time during sensitive shooting periods.

  • Your photographer will NOT make any physical contact with you during this part of the session but you may be asked to reposition yourself several times for lighting purposes.

FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT: ALTHOUGH A CLIENT MAY BE FULLY EXPOSED IN THE STUDIO DURING THE SHOOTING OF AN IMAGE - WITH SOME CASES OF AGREED FULL FRONTAL - WE WILL BE UNABLE TO DISPLAY, POST OR PROMOTE IMAGES CONTAINING GENITALIA ON OUR WEBSITE OR SOCIAL PLATFORMS. WE CAN, HOWEVER, POST SEMI-NUDE, IMPLIED NUDITY, OR ANY SHOT THAT WAS TAKEN FULLY EXPOSED BUT HAS BEEN DIGITALLY ALTERED TO DARKEN THE AREA, REMOVE THE AREA COMPLETELY OR REPLACE THE AREA(S) IN OUR EDITING SOFTWARE.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR EVEN JUST FANCY A CHAT TO GO OVER THIS PART OF THE SESSION (IF IT'S SOMETHING YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO SHOOT) - PLEASE REACH OUT AT ANY TIME. YOUR COMFORT, ABILITY TO RELAX AND TRUST ARE A PRIORITY TO ME.
